Help with the planning
If you or a close family member/relative is the host of the party, then you are more than welcome to help with the planning and preparation. The tasks can be delegated – you can ask the host what he/she needs help with. Remember, the more organized and planned for the barbecue is, the more fun everyone will have!
Bring food
Even if the host says they’re going to provide the food, it’s still ideal to contribute food to the table as a guest. You can choose to bring a salad, a side dish of your choice, some meat or seafood to cook on the grill or a veggie tray. If you don’t have time to prepare something homemade, you can choose to bring a bottle of wine, some beer or some store-bought dessert.
Prioritize safety
Be sure that the grill and cooking area is set up in a safe space, away from where most of the guests will be mingling. Have a spray bottle or a fire extinguisher ready just in case. Remind the kids not to run around, especially near the grill area.
Prepare entertainment
While adults can be satisfied with good food and conversation, you should also mind your other guests – the kids! Kids can get bored very quickly, that’s why it’s important to have some entertainment prepared. Adults will enjoy some card or drinking games.
Some good old backyard games will do the trick for the little ones. A treasure hunt, Frisbee, sack race, corn hole, Twister and other classic games are good choices. Amp up the excitement by having some prizes at stake. You can also have them make s’mores!
Don’t forget to play lively music to keep everyone on their feet!
Loosen up
Most importantly, loosen up and enjoy the event. Relax, eat good food and catch up with friends or relatives you don’t see often. Even if you’re assigned tasks, it doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun at the party!
